Marriage

Here is an update that has been a long time coming.  As of April I am officially a married man.  It feels good to be done with the wedding, even though it was a great day.  The rehearsal dinner, wedding day, and reception all went extremely well.  My wife and I both had a a great time.  We hope that everyone that was there had a great time, and that the people the we invited who could not make it know that they were missed.  That day was definitely the best and one of the most important days of my life.  I did my best to stay in the moment and remember everything despite the fact that everything did happen very fast that day, and it still plays back like a movie in my head.

Since then married life has been great.  Everything’s been going well, and we recently got a cat, who has been fun and kept us busy.  Everything else has been fairly normal.  I have posted some pictures from our trip to Spain as well as our cat on Flickr if you want to check it out.

Since the last time

Time has continued to fly since the last major post that I wrote. The holidays have now come and gone, and even though it was a fairly quick and busy few weeks I had a good time in New York visiting future family as well as a friend. I also got to visit with my Dad who is also on the east coast. Even though it was only for a couple of days I am glad that he finally got to meet my fiance for the first time. For New Year’s Eve we just ended up staying in and watching the ball drop.

The wedding is now less than three months away, and even though our list of things is getting smaller, there is definitely still enough to do to keep up busy right up to the final day. I do think that all of our work prior to the wedding has been really good, and I do think that it is bringing us closer together it has been somewhat stressful to keep up the pace that the wedding planning sometimes requires for as long as we have been planning for the wedding. It has been hard to believe that over a year has gone by since we got engaged. It doesn’t feel like it has been that long, but, looking back, we have done a lot since that day to plan for the wedding. I do think that it will be weird when we are done because we won’t have all of the extra things to think about and do. Overall, I am looking forward to being able to enjoy our day as well as for the relief of when it is done so that we can have a bit more free time.

Speaking of some free time, we did get a chance to go see Cloverfield recently. Even though I think that I am one of the only people in the theater to say this, I actually enjoyed it. A lot of the people that I heard walking out of the theater said things to the effect that they wanted their money back, but I didn’t feel that way in the end. I do think that whether you like the movie or not revolves around your expectations. I walked in expecting a little different version of a monster movie, and I feel like that’s what I got. I do have to admit that the Blair Witch style of filming annoyed me a bit, but I also did like the point of view that the movie revolves around. I liked that they did the monster movie from the point of view a group of people who were in the middle of the danger. Just like I thought that King Kong did a good job of lending some sad and human traits to King Kong, I think that Cloverfield did a good job of showing what it would be like to be an innocent bi-standard in an invasion like that. With that said, and if you are still reading, I would say that if you have not seen it that you can wait to see it at home on DVD. Just go in wanting to see a monster movie.

Well, Thanksgiving has now come and gone. This Thanksgiving and the holidays so far have been fun, even though they’ve been busy. We ended up going to Arizona to visit family for Turkey day, and my Mom had about 19 people over, which made for an good mixture of people to keep it interesting. We also ended up seeing Tombstone, Arizona which was fun to see since I liked the movie.

Before we left we also went to go see the Dead Sea Scrolls, which was an interesting exhibit too. A lot of the scrolls were much smaller than I imagined they would be, but seeing some of the original scrolls with the Ten Commandments I thought was definitely worth seeing since it is such a big part of history as well as religion.

My birthday came and went as well, and it was a good. I got some good gifts, and I had a good dinner. I am now looking forward to the holidays. I will be going to New York to hopefully see some snow. :) We’ve gotten a bit of rain here finally, but it doesn’t feel like winter yet.

My My, Hey Hey

As seen on the news, the past week has brought horrific fires here to San Diego county. My friends and family have all made it through fine, which is good news. My heart definitely goes out to all of the families who have been affected and lost their homes.

The area that I live in was one of the few areas that were not evacuated during the height of the fires. My condo actually ended up being more of an evacuation center as a friend of mine who was evacuated ended up staying with me for a couple of days. Most of the days of last week I spent attentively watching the news to see where the fire would be spreading next. Monday I believe was the worst day as the fire seemed to travel about 60 miles in about a day, and it was one of the first fires that we had here that almost made it from the mountains all the way to the coast. Things have finally started to calm down here though, and things are almost back to normal despite some of the fires still burning.

Last week was mostly a wash due to the fires blocking off a lot of roads as well as creating air quality that was not good to be out in due to the smoke. It is nice to be back into the swing of things again this week though. Halloween is around the corner. :)

More than meets the eye

Things have been busy since my last post. I got to catch up on some more movies such as Transformers, which was a lot of fun to watch. I got taken back to my childhood filled with playing with my toys around the house. It was also a bit of my worst nightmare from childhood seeing the toys that I loved playing with attacking people. It was definitely a fun movie to watch, and the special effects were amazing to see also. It was almost seeming this year that Industrial Light and Magic was amazingly topping itself with each movie it did. The work they did on Pirates of the Caribbean was amazing as well as Transformers.

I also started another drawing class. I hope to have some pieces to put up in my art work section once the class is over. I have updated that section a little bit since I last posted. I’ve been having fun learning more about how to draw as well getting a little bit back into math recently. It’s been good to refresh myself on math and to hopefully improve my drawing ability.

The wedding planning is also going well. It still seems like we have quite a bit to do over the next six months, but we haven’t started to panic yet. :) More to come on the wedding as it gets closer.

Engagement

After being engaged for nine months, we got to have our engagement party, finally, last weekend. It was great to see everyone who came, and I think that everyone had a good time. There was a good amount of drinking, dancing, and eating (maybe not in that exact order). Everyone seemed to get a long fairly well too, which was good to see. I was excited and nervous about the party because I wasn’t sure how everyone would get along, so I was glad that everyone had a good time. It’s also nice to know that it is over with though, only because we still have wedding planning to do. Now we can fully concentrate on the wedding, which is going well, but we still have enough to do to keep us busy.

Overall, this summer has been fun because I’ve gotten to see friends and family who I don’t get to see very often. I’ve also been able to meet some of my new extended family members from my fiance’s side, and I had a lot of fun meeting them. As soon as I get some of the pictures back from the party I will share some.

Thriller

Summer is finally here, and it has been nice to have a break from school. I’ve been able to see some of the big movies this summer, and I would say that they’ve been entertaining. I’ve seen both Spiderman 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean:Dead Man’s Chest. I thought both of them were fun movies to watch.

Recently I also saw Room 1408. I thought that as a horror movie it missed the mark. The movie had a few moments to make you jump, but it mostly had the audience laughing a lot like if we were watching Army of Darkness. If you don’t want to spoil the movie don’t read on, but my final take on the movie was that it was almost a new spin on Charles Dickens’ A Chrismas Carol. The main character John Cusack starts the movie as a man who is selfish and only looks out for himself, until he enters the room where ghosts make him relive his past as well as show him his alternate futures. Overall, I thought that it was a well done and unique version of this old story. If you’re going into the movie to get scared just don’t expect much though.
